BriMove: Destination Los Angeles: Gazing out the Departure Window
My closest friend Brian Carroll is finally making the move out to LA. I seriously cannot wait for him to get out here. Follow his progress!
It’s been said to me that when all this business with the car is over, I’ll look back at it and laugh. Well sure, I know this - it’s how I’ve lived most of my life. Right now, stress builds.
Even though I’m still within my Departure Window, the fact that I got all hyped up about last Sunday has…

What I’ve Been Reading
I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile. Here is what’s on my pull-list:
Angel & Faith / Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9: I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, both complete seasons we own and have watched multiple times. The comics are a little hit and miss, especially season 8 of Buffy and the Angel comics, but these new series are quite excellent. BtVS S9 is very back to basics, and Angel/Faith has them tooling around the UK and fighting together. If you loved the shows, these are must reads.
Animal Man (New 52): I love these comics. Dark, terrifying, and about animals! The fact that I’m reading this with Swamp Thing makes it even better.
Swamp Thing (New 52): I’ve started making my way through the Alan Moore Swamp Things as well, so it’s a little weird to jump back and forth, especially since the new series kinda reboots everything. However, the new 52 issues are well written, well drawn, and just as creepy as Animal man. Read both of these together, dagnabbit, especially since they crossover a bit.
Batwoman (New 52): While the writing and art/panels can be a little confusing sometimes (especially since I read the prequels to this AFTER - not recommended)(I also take clarity over beauty any time), it’s still one of the best superhero comics out there.
Wonder Woman (New 52): I’ve just started reading this one, and the fact that there’s very little to do for Wonder Woman in these shows that she’s just not a very interesting superhero. That being said, it’s got a very Sandman/American Gods feel to it, which I can’t say no to. It gets better with every issue (for instance, in the most recent issue, Diana just fought Poesidan - re-imagined as a huge scary kraken-like thing).
Ultimate Spiderman: Miles Morales is so great. A different, new take on the old, and it just makes me wish that the new Spiderman movie starred Donald Glover.
Avenging Spiderman: Much like jumping between Alan Moore and the New 52 of Swamp Thing, jumping between Ultimate Spiderman to the Avenging/Amazing Spiderman continuums are a little confusing. That being said, this comic is a lot of fun. I’m bummed that the artist is being switched out, but it’s still a great comic.
Daredevil: I’ve always wanted to read Daredevil, but never had a good starting point. Now I do, and it’s so damn fun. Lighthearted, well-crafted, and just a blast to read. The last crossover with Amazing Spiderman was very fun too - I always loved seeing Daredevil and Spiderman interact.
Venom: I don’t even know what continuum Venom takes place in, but it’s still a good read. The idea is that Flash Thompson has lost his legs in the Iraq war and is given the Symbiote to carry out missions in under 48 hours or it’ll bond to him permanently. It’s like Punisher meets Spiderman.
Wolverine and the X-Men: Wolverine breaks from the X-Men and opens a new school (Jean Grey’s School for the blah blah blah). It’s like First Class, with a bunch of new mutants. It also doesn’t take itself very seriously, which I like in a superhero comic.
Prophet: I love Brandon Graham. Read this.
RASL: I love Jeff Smith. Read this.
I posted about this last night, but I’ve started a blog about my attempt to class it up. It’s called “An Attempt to Class it Up.” Follow it, won’t you? Here’s another sample post.
In the first picture, you’ll see my go-to sneakers for the past year: a pair of Penguins that I found at DSW. They were one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I ever had. I wore them when I trekked around Israel, when I walked around Disneyland (or anywhere, for that matter), when it rained, when it snowed. Now they look like this.
Ratty ratty ratty. I blame myself. Which is why I plan on taking some goddamn good care of the second photo: My new pair of shoes! They are cordovan Pro-Keds 69ers. And the price was pretty great, JackTrends was having a shoe sale today, and with another discount added at the last minute, I only had to pay shipping (eight bucks!). I’m a little worried they might come in big, since my shoe size tends to change every time I buy a new pair, but I’m excited in any case.
The choice of color I’ll get into in a later post.

Operation: Class it Up
I’ve started a blog that will follow my attempt to dress nicer. Sorry webcomic t-shirts!
So, as a New Year’s Resolution (but also because I want to), I’ve decided to start dressing nicer. Not suit-a-day, but y’know. Nicer. In my own way.
What have I dressed like up to this moment? It was more or less like this:
Those suspenders? So 1988.
For the most part, I wore t-shirts I…

Obama is signing a bill that will allow the government to indefinitely detain American citizens? Are The Rock and Bruce Willis in the GI Joe sequel? Is anyone better than Martin Freeman to play Bilbo? Are those dwarves fucking singing all those awesome songs? What does what they’re chanting mean? It means RISE? Why is the CIA knocking on my door?
Oh shit, THE AVENGERS!

I have a new Threadless shirt up for scoring! It’s Tintin/Rintintin themed. I’d love to get it printed, so please go over there and give it a “5” and spread the word! Thanks everyone!
